Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC is an international real estate company which began operations in July 2008.[1]
Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate franchises independent businesses to operate within its network.[2]
Brand History
In 1978, Meredith Corporation, one of the nation’s leading media and marketing companies and publisher of Better Homes and Gardens® magazine, launched the former Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate Service.[3] Meredith owned and operated Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate Service from 1978 to 1998. Meredith then sold the real estate business in 1998 to GMAC Home Services Inc., a subsidiary of GMAC Financial Services, while retaining the Better Homes and Gardens® name. GMAC was given the right to use the Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate Service name for up to 10 years after the sale, after which it was phased out.[4]
In October 2007, Meredith Corporation granted Realogy the right to license the Better Homes and Gardens name and related trademarks for 100 years. Realogy re-launched the Better Homes and Gardens franchise network on July 1, 2008 and named Sherry Chris, then COO of Coldwell Banker, CEO and president of the newly launched company. [4][5]
Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate was the fifth residential real estate brand launched by Realogy.[6]
Affiliates
The Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate network is composed of independently owned and operated franchises. The network includes several large companies.
The network has grown substantially since its reintroduction in 2008 and expanded into Canada in 2011.[7] Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate's corporate offices are based in Madison, New Jersey. Today, the franchise has hundreds of offices and thousands of affiliated real estate agents located throughout the U.S. and Canada.[8]
Culture
Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate has five core values represented by the acronym PAIGE: passion, authenticity, innovation, growth and excellence.[9]
When the brand re-launched in 2008, CEO Sherry Chris announced a clear focus for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate on tools, technology and service. This included the ability for affiliated brokers and agents to access PinPoint, an exclusive program that provides access to Meredith’s database of consumers who interact with the Better Homes and Gardens brand through the magazine, website and other Meredith brands.[10]
In 2010, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate launched the “Beta Brokerage,” a business model of competing brokerages listed and detailed on the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate blog, as an example of “brokerages (that) have been influenced by the times and are remodeling themselves to meet the future head on," said Chris. These brokerages collaborated to supply information on their marketing tactics, consumer outreach, business practices and more.[11]
Recognition
In 2015, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate was ranked 14th in The Learning! 100 for real estate training and educational platforms for new talent attraction.[12]
CEO Sherry Chris has also received numerous awards for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, including being named the 2010 Inman Innovator of the Year.[13]
