Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud

Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud by Shaun Considine was released as an e-book timed to the release of FX's series Feud: Bette and Joan.

Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud is an American biography by Shaun Considine first published in 1989 and re-released in 2017 by Graymalkin Media in paperback and as an e-book.

The biography focuses on the celebrated, long-term feud of Hollywood's two iconic screen legends, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. The famous feud is dramatized in the first season of the FX anthology television series Feud, titled Bette and Joan and starring Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange.[1][2]

Summary

The elegant Joan Crawford, a former chorus girl who rose through the ranks at MGM, and the brash Bette Davis, a Broadway star notorious for refusing to bow to the studio bosses, were two of the biggest Hollywood stars of their time. Their rivalry exploded during their work together on the horror film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and became a public feud that lasted the rest of their lives. Based on interviews the author conducted with both actresses and more than a decade of research, the book shows the hard-drinking, hard-fighting, and fading stars at their best and worst.

The Crawford-Davis rivalry is the inspiration for the Ryan Murphy TV series Feud starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.[1][2]
