Bernardo Aguiar
Bernardo Aguiar (Rio de Janeiro, February 9, 1984) is a percussionist, teacher, Brazilian music producer, technical reference in the modern tambourine, developed by Marcos Suzano, member of the Pandeiro Repique Duo and the Pife Muderno group.
From childhood, he played percussion in carnival blocks of Rio de Janeiro as Suvaco do Cristo and in samba schools as Mocidade Unida do Santa Marta.
With thirteen years old, he joins the Pandemonium Orchestra – an Orchestra made exclusively with Pandeiros. His exceptional talent with the instrument gains him the role of group's lead soloist, until 2001, when he leaves the group. At Pandemonium Orchestra, Bernardo has the opportunity to play alongside with big names of the Brazilian music and to be introduced to masters of the Brazilian percussion like Carlos Negreiros, Robertinho Silva and Marcos Suzano. By the year of 1998, with the Pandemonium Orchestra, he performs at “Prêmio Sharp” - Sharp Music Awards-, and at the year 2000, at Percpan – one of the most important percussion festivals in the world.
From 17 years old on, he has been collaborating with various musicians in the Instrumental Brazilian Music scenery, including the very respectable musicians Yamandú Costa, Hamilton de Holanda, Jaques Morelenbaum and Guinga, names that made him circulate around Brazil and the world showing and teaching his art.
In 2009 Bernardo officially commenced, with the percussionist Gabriel Policarpo, their music project named Pandeiro Repique Duo and began performing and giving workshops at festivals all around Brazil, Europe, EUA, Asia and South America. With his duo, Bernardo also gave master class in different places and importants universities like The Juilliard School of Music, The Philadelphia University of Arts, and in other places of the world like City University London e Copenhagen Rytmisk Konservatorium.
In the same year, Bernardo played with his group Pife Muderno and with the Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil in Carnegie Hall, one of the most respectable music places of the world.
Bernardo is feeling home both in the universe of instrumental music (he participated in the last album of the composer Guinga and made an Asian tour with the guitar player Zé Paulo Becker) as well as in the universe of pop music (He recorded on the two last records of the band O Rappa, very popular in Brazil).
In 2015, Bernardo was invited by the North-American band Snarky Puppy to record in the DVD "Family Dinner 2", a huge project which is presented alongside the world's great names in music such as Salif Keita and Susana Baca.
As musical producer, Bernardo worked in the album CD Batucada Canção, by the singer Aline Paes, released in 2015.
Bernardo Aguiar has a degree in Social Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro.
