Benjamin Prichard's Tennessee Whiskey is a Tennessee whiskey produced in the community of Kelso, Tennessee.[2] Though it is the only distillery operating in Lincoln County (and its unaged whiskey is named Lincoln County Lightning), Prichard's is not produced via the Lincoln County Process.[3] Due to a special grandfathering exemption under a Tennessee law enacted in 2013, its Kelso plant is the only producer allowed to label its product as "Tennessee Whiskey" without using it.[4][5]
The Kelso distillery was opened in 1997, making it the first new legal distillery to open in the state since Prohibition was repealed.[2][6] Prichard's second distillery opened May 2014 in Nashville, Tennessee, on Whites Creek Pike.[6][7] As of 2012, Prichard's was the only Tennessee whiskey on the market distilled in pot stills.[8] Prichard also markets a rye whiskey labeled Tennessee Rye Whiskey. All products are sold in glass 750ml bottles.
