BELFOR USA Group Inc., doing business as BELFOR Property Restoration, provides integrated disaster recovery and property restoration services. The company restores water, fire, storm, and mold damages for business and consumers. It also offers recovery services, including fire damage restoration, smoke and soot removal, storm damage restoration, water extraction, structural dehumidification, reconstruction and general contracting, mold removal and remediation, corrosion control, air duct cleaning, contents restoration, document and media recovery, electronics restoration, machinery and equipment decontamination, machinery and equipment rebuilding and repair, semiconductor tool decontamination, environmental, marine and offshore restoration, and consulting services. The company was founded in 1999 and is based in Birmingham, Michigan. It has service offices in the United States. BELFOR USA Group Inc. operates as a subsidiary of BELFOR Europe GmbH.[1]
History
1946-1981, BELFOR began business as Quality Awnings & Construction in Dearborn in 1946 and became Inrecon L.L.C. in 1981.[2]
2001, With the takeover of the existing US-market leader INRECON LLC in July 2001, BELFOR accomplished a major coup. INRECON – the name stands for INsurance RECONstruction – has annual sales of $180 million and employs 1,000 staff. Sheldon Yellen is the CEO of Inrecon.
2003, Partnership with Aggeko, The companies' major joint past projects include restoration work resulting from Hurricane Georges in Biloxi, Miss., and Puerto Rico; Tropical Storm Allison in Houston, Texas; water damage to the FARGODOME in Fargo, N.D; Tropical Storm/Hurricane Lili; recovery work in New York City at Ground Zero; and Super Typhoon Pongsana. 2007, BELFOR Holdings Inc. acquires DUCTZ International, LLC, a professional air duct cleaning and HVAC (heating/ventilating/air conditioning) restoration franchise network. With current locations in 22 states, DUCTZ can now grow in tandem with BELFOR to increase its independent client base, as well as service BELFOR clients with HVAC restoration services.
2009, BELFOR USA acquires Hawaii Restorative Services of Honolulu, enabling it to respond quickly to losses occurring in Hawaii, Samoa and the other Pacific islands.
2010, BELFOR USA acquires Coach's Catastrophe. [4]
2011, BELFOR's CEO Sheldon Yellen was featured in CBS's primetime show Undercover Boss.[5]
2015, BELFOR acquires BAMCOR, an industry leader in rebuilding, repairing and restoring loss-affected production machinery and equipment.
2016, BELFOR opens Corpus Christi, TX office.

Role in natural disasters
- 2000: Hyderabad, India flood – Recovered 100,000 books and manuscripts in the 17th Century Khan Collection at Urdu Research Library.[7]
- 2001: Tropical Storm Allison – Jones Hall, the Wortham Theater Center and the Alley Theater all suffered damage in the flooding. They lost thousands of musical scores, ballet costumes and irreplaceable musical instruments, including three Steinway concert grand pianos. A national account manager with BELFOR USA, a restoration company that handles natural catastrophes, says it will take several weeks for his company to dry out and dehumidify the Alley and Jones Hall.[8]
- 2004: Hurricane Ivan – Performed thermal vacuum freeze drying to restore more than 4,000 boxes of documents, half of the vital records in the Cayman Islands National Archives.[9]
- 2005: Hurricane Katrina – The disaster management company BELFOR was called to the scene within days for early reconnaissance, as part of Tulane's campus-wide emergency plan. [10] The “Landmark Undertaking” of the Tulane Libraries Recovery Center [11][12][13]
- 2010: Chile earthquake – installed more than 753,000 square feet of shrink wrap protection and restored one of South America’s largest data warehouses, including millions of documents and data media.[14]
- 2012: Super Storm Sandy - BELFOR initially had 1700 crew people onsite in the New York City area for client's losses [15][16]
