CH7 (Thai: ช่องเจ็ด; rtgs: Chong Chet; literal: Channel 7) is a Thai television station. CH7 was officially launched on 27 November 1967 after being acquired by Royal Thai Army.

CH7's headquarters are at Mo Chit, Chatuchak.

CH7 currently broadcasts on UHF using digital television network for CH7HD. CH7 is also available over TrueVisions on Channel 35. It broadcasts 24-hours daily.

Since its 1974-75 conversion to colour it has retained its signature identification tune.

History

CH7 was formerly known as Bangkok Colour Television (another one was Bangkok Television, now Channel 5). It was managed by the Royal Thai Army and broadcasts from Bangkok. This broadcast area was only limited to Bangkok Metropolitan Area only and broadcasts in Bangkok.

The channel targets Thai-speaking viewers; American English and Hong Kong Cantonese imported series are also shown in this channel.

Channel 7's launching ceremony on 27 November 1967 at 19:00 Bangkok Time was presided by the then Prime Minister of Thailand Thanom Kittikachorn. It was originally planned for a national expansion and started national television broadcasting on 1 January 1972 then in black and white, converting to colour in 1974.

Digital switchover

With the start of digital terrestrial television broadcasting in Thailand, Channel 7 inaugurated its digital HD signal on 25 April 2014 on one of the multiplexes of the Royal Thai Army, at channel 35.

On 19 June 2017, Channel 7 announced that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission had approved their plan for discontinuing their analog transmissions, starting on 1 August in Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Kampaeng Phet, Phichit, Chumphon, Phangnga, Phattalung, and Songkhla provinces. According to the plan, all analog transmissions of the station will be discontinued on 16 June 2018. [1] [2]
