Bang Si-hyuk (born August 9, 1972) is a South Korean lyricist, composer, producer and record executive. He is the founder and CEO of Big Hit Entertainment, which is home to BTS and Homme. In his early career he was known for partnering with JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young as a songwriting duo, with Park writing the lyrics and Bang composing and arranging the music.

Early life

Bang's passion for music began early as he grew up in a musical home. However he was discouraged from pursuing a career in music by his parents. He graduated from Seoul National University.[1][2]

Career

Bang met Park Jin-young during the mid-1990s and often partnered together as a songwriting duo. When Park founded his company JYP Entertainment, Bang joined him as a composer, arranger and producer.[2] One of their early successes was the group g.o.d, who went on to establish themselves as one of the most popular groups of the 2000s. They were largely responsible for the production of g.o.d's debut album Chapter 1, with Park serving as the producer and primary songwriter while Bang arranged the instrumentation and music.[3] Some of g.o.d's most famous songs whose soundtrack was arranged by Bang include "One Candle" and "Road". Besides g.o.d, Bang has also produced or composed for Rain, Wonder Girls, R&B singer Baek Ji-young and others.

In 2005 Bang left JYP Entertainment and founded his own company Big Hit Entertainment, which is home to boy band BTS. He continues to write, compose and produce and most recently co-wrote six songs in BTS's critically acclaimed album Wings, released in October 2016. The success of Wings garnered him the Best Producer Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards and the Songwriter Award at the Melon Music Awards that year.
