"Bad Girlfriend" is the second single released by Theory of a Deadman from their album Scars & Souvenirs. It was released to radio and for downloads on May 14, 2008. In the U.S., "Bad Girlfriend" was the most added song on rock radio and grew quickly in plays and downloads, therefore making a debut on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. It debuted at #89 on the Canadian Hot 100, and quickly arose to peak at #1. It is currently their most successful single in the U.S, with "So Happy", the single before it, being their previous most successful, making Scars & Souvenirs their most successful album as well. The song was co-written by Christine Connolly. The song is Theory's second big breakthrough from this album, carrying the band to the top of the Mainstream Rock Charts within 14 weeks. It is also the band's second song to reach the top 20 of the Modern Rock Chart, so far peaking at #8. So far, it been their fourth top 10 hit on the Mainstream Rock Charts. Almost a year and a half after the release of "Bad Girlfriend" to rock radio, it is being released to mainstream radio in December,[2] as Sirius Hits 1 added the song in November 2008.

Song meaning

The song is about Tyler Connolly's then-wife, actress Christine Danielle,[3] who makes him feel very protective of her because she is attractive and always has other guys hitting on her, as the band stated in an interview with Fuse.

Music video

The uncensored version of the music video was released on July 18, 2008. A censored version of the video came out later in early August. This video reached #21 on the MuchMusic Countdown. The video shows a girl leaving for work, presumably at a hospital, leaving her boyfriend a note about how she's working the late shift. The band sings a song at a strip club, and are shown watching the strippers on stage. They're surprised when one of their girlfriends comes out, stripping and inviting him on stage.

Charts

"Bad Girlfriend" entered the Mainstream Rock Tracks at #30 on the week of June 14, 2008, previously being the most added song on that chart, and later debuted on the Modern Rock Tracks. On the week of September 27, 2008, "Bad Girlfriend" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #98, and dropped off the next week. A week after, it re-entered at #90, and has since climbed to #75. Since the song was later released to pop radio, "Bad Girlfriend" re-entered once again at #100 on the week of December 13, 2008, and has so far climbed to #89.
