Babita (born Babita Shivdasani), also known by her married name Babita Kapoor, is a former Indian actress of Sindhi and British descent, who appeared in Bollywood films. The daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani, she is the first cousin of her contemporary actress Sadhana Shivdasani. Her debut film was Raaz opposite Rajesh Khanna. From 1966 to 1973, she starred in nineteen films as the lead heroine, including the box office successes Dus Lakh, Haseena Maan Jayegi (1968), Farz (1967), Kismat (1968), Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati, Doli, Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai, Kal Aaj Aur Kal (1971), Jeet, Banphool and Ek Hasina Do Diwane. Following her marriage to actor Randhir Kapoor in 1971, she acted in Jeet, Ek Hasina Do Diwane. Her subsequent release Sone Ke Hath flopped and she decided to leave her film career. The couple have two daughters, film actresses Karisma and Kareena.

Background

Babita was born to actor Hari Shivdasani, who was of a Hindu Sindhi family which had migrated from Pakistan to India after the partition, and a British Christian mother. Her sister, Meena Advani, is the owner of Powermaster Engineers Private Limited and Powermaster tools Private Limited.[1] The famous actress and her contemporary Sadhana Shivdasani is her first cousin.[2]

Career

In her movie career, she appeared in nineteen films. Her first film to release was Dus Lakh however her debut film was actuallyRaaz (1967) costarring Rajesh Khanna. The 1966 release was major hit due to performance of Om Prakash so by the time the film Raaz released she became a known face already.She starred with her future husband Randhir Kapoor in the hit film Kal Aaj Aur Kal. After their marriage they were cast together by director K. Shankar in Jeet which was remake of En Annan starring M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa.Her biggest box office successes were Dus Lakh with Sanjay Khan, Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati and Haseena Maan Jayegi (1968), (with her future uncle-in-law)Shashi Kapoor, Farz, Banphool and Ek Hasina Do Diwane with Jeetendra, Doli with Rajesh Khanna, Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai with her future uncle in law Shammi Kapoor,Kismat with Biswajeet, Kab? Kyoon? Aur Kahan? (1970) with Dharmendra and the two films with her husband.Her only films to flop were Anjana, Bhikare Moti, Anmol Moti, Sone Ke Hath.

Personal life

Babita married Randhir Kapoor on 6 November 1971. They have two children, actresses Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.[3][4][5] She and Randhir live in separate homes, even though they are still legally married and have no intention of divorcing.[6]
