Ayesha Mumtaz

Ayesha Mumtaz (Urdu: عائشہ ممتاز) was the Director of Operations at Punjab Food Authority.[1][2][3]

Ms. Mumtaz hails from a middle income family in Lahore and belong to the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) cadre.[4] She rose to fame after raiding various restaurants and hotels to ensure the quality of food and hygiene. She sealed many eateries while fined others for providing unhygienic food to consumers and other noncompliant acts. Her work is being highly appreciated by Government and especially by people of Punjab,[5][6][7] while food-sellers feared her.[8] Her popularity is manifested by the 61,000 fans she has gained on Facebook.[8]

She joined Punjab food Authority on 1 June 2015. In November 2015 Punjab Food Authority with the collaboration of USAID and University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Department of Dairy Technology and Department Food Science & Human Nutrition, she is running a project " Data Collection for the Assessment of Supply of Loose milk in Lahore.

Ayesha Mumtaz has even raided Shairf Medical City, a hospital of the current prime minister of Pakistan.[9]

She was sacked in October 2016, following allegations of corruption involving her driver.[8] According to The Economist, "she made enemies in the food business and among politicians connected with it."[8] Since her sacking, according to Lahoris, there has been a decrease in food safety inspections.[8]
