Avessalom

Avessalom (Russian: Авессало́м) is a Russian male first name.[1] It is a colloquial form of Avesalom (Авесало́м), which is used in Biblical context[2] and is derived from the Biblical Hebrew 'abšālōm, meaning the father of peace.[1] Another form of the name, Absalon (Абсало́н)—after the Danish archbishop Absalon who imposed Christianity on the Wendish people—was included into various, often handwritten, church calendars throughout the 17th–19th centuries.[3] It was omitted from the official Synodal Menologium at the end of the 19th century.[3]
