History
Avasant was founded as Stradling Global Sourcing, as a sister company of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth (SYCR).[3] SYCR is a Newport Beach, California law firm in business for over 35 years. In 2006, the company changed its name to Avasant. Avasant represents the merging of the Latin word “ava” meaning “advisor” and the Sanskrit word, “sant” meaning “sagely.” Once merged the name means "sagely advisor."
During 2008, Avasant went through a planned management buy-out from SYCR. The two companies, although separate, continue to maintain strategic ties. Since its formation Avasant has been identified as a top sourcing advisory firm in leading industry publications, including distinctions with the IAOP Top Sourcing Advisor[4] and the Black Book of Outsourcing.[5]
Avasant signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the governments of Hangzhou[6] and Chongqing in 2009, which was designed to improve BPO training and education in China.[7]
Avasant launched a subsidiary company called AvaSense, Inc in June 2010.[8] This new company developed a proprietary Vendor Governance system for managing Outsourcing and third party contracts. Avasense is a comprehensive VMO process management application delivered as a Software as a Service.[9] Avasant acquired Global Equations (Texas based outsourcing and globalization advisory firm) in December 2010 and expanded its service offerings in the areas of Sourcing, Globalization, Executive events and Go-to-market advisory services.
Avasant entered into strategic partnership with MergerTech (investment banking firm) in 2012 to strengthen its Mergers & Acquisitions offerings for IT/BPO firms the world over. Avasant also launched a community blog called GlobalizationX to provide thought leadership and research-based content related to globalization and impact sourcing topics.
In 2013 Avasant acquired Sourcingboard LLC, a Washington DC based boutique sourcing advisory firm. The acquisition enabled Avasant to extend its services to new industry segments such as airlines, insurance and high-tech.[10]
Avasant's entry into the German market, via its partnership with SEPICON, has helped Avasant’s growth strategy.[11] For SEPICON, the relationship provides a service model for its global subsidiaries and partners. In 2014 Avasant also launched Avasant Connect, a new cloud-based collaboration portal exclusively intended for managing relationships with the global service provider ecosystem.
