Aswar Rahman is an American filmmaker, UX designer, and 2017 Minneapolis mayoral candidate.[1][2] Rahman is the founder of Cineapolis[3][4] and its annual film festival, the Mespies.[5][6]

A member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor party,[7] Rahman is campaigning for the mayoralty of the state's largest city, Minneapolis.

Rahman's platform has emphasized the lowering of the municipal property tax rate.[8] [9]

Mayoral Candidacy

In his 2017 candidacy for mayor, he has focused his campaign on ending poverty and policing. He is an outspoken in his advocacy for small businesses, especially for immigrant communities.[10] He worked for the mayor's office for three years and has focused his campaign on the details of his plans as mayor, especially the budget.[11]
