The Associação Bauru Basketball Team or only Bauru Basket, for sponsorship reasons named Gocil/Bauru, is a Brazilian professional basketball team from Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil that plays in the Novo Basquete Brasil league.
History
The team, was the second team of the Brazilian guard Leandro Barbosa. Barbosa was an important player during the old Brazilian Championship, in 2002. In that year, Bauru won the title, after a series against Araraquara. Barbosa and his teammates Marcus Vinicius, Murilo Becker, Vanderlei and others won the series by 3-0. In NBB's first season (2008–2009), Bauru signed the American Brazilian guard Larry Taylor. In the NBB's fourth season (2011–2012), Taylor, helped by the young player Gui Deodato, the experienced Fernando Fischer and other American, Jeff Agba, led the team to the sixth place in the season.[1]
In 2015, Bauru won its first FIBA Americas League and was crowned the continental champion for the first time.[2] Because of the Americas League victory, the team would play in the 2015 FIBA Intercontinental Cup against Real Madrid.[3]
Also, Bauru Basket was 3 time champion of the Championship Paulista of basketball.[4] Later, Bauru reached even bigger heights, when it was announced that the team would be part of the NBA preseason.[5] The team would play the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards in the United States.
In 2017, after two consecutive losses at the NBB finals, Bauru finally became brazilian champions once again, winning the title for the first time in 15 years after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Paulistano in a 5 games series. Alex Garcia was named finals MVP.
