The Assiniboia Southern Rebels are a Canadian Junior B ice hockey team located in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. They play in the Prairie Junior Hockey League.
History
The Assiniboia Southern Rebels were established in 1992, and were highly successful for their first ten to twelve years, winning three Keystone Cups between 1996 and 2003. Since then they have not been able to duplicate the success they had in that span. In 2006, they finished last in the division, however, winning only 9 of 38 games and missing the playoffs. In 2007-08, the divisions were divided into the North and South Divisions, and Assiniboia was placed in the South. They finished their second season with a 17-19-0 record, finishing third in the South, before losing in the first round of the playoffs to Fort Knox. In 2008-09, the Rebels finished with a record of 16-26-0, placing third again in their division. They were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Pilot Butte Storm. In 2009-10, the Rebels were forced to forfeit a number of games in November due to a team bout of the H1N1 virus.[1] The following year, the Rebels finished dead last in their division, with a record of 9-28-3. They improved for 2011-12, finishing third in the South Division, before losing in the first round of the playoffs. The Rebels finished second in the South Division in 2012-13, with a record of 27-11-2, behind only the Pilot Butte Storm, and defeated Fort Knox in the first round. They went on to lose to Pilot Butte in the second round. The following year, the Rebels finished third in their division, losing again in the second round to Pilot Butte. In 2014-15, the Rebels finished third again, with a record of 17-18-3. They lost to the Regina Capitals in the first round of the playoffs.
