''Asia'' (ship)

A number of ships have been named Asia, including:

Sailing ships

• Asia (1798 ship) was launched at Philadelphia in 1798. She then made voyages to India and China. She was captured in 1805 for trading with the French. New owners renamed her Duchess of York. Under that name she traded with the West Indies and South America.
• Asia, of 783 tons (bm), was launched at Bombay Dockyard in 1798 for Blythe Bros., London.^[1]
• Asia, of 457 ⁴⁰⁄₉₄ tons (bm), was launched at Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1799 for Grieg and Co. On 23 November 1833 her registration was cancelled as she had been lost at sea.^[1]
• Asia made eight voyages between 1820 and 1836 transporting convicts from Britain to Australia. At the same time she served in private trade to India under license from the British East India Company ship. She then served to carry immigrants on the same route until c.1855.
• Asia (East Indiaman), nine sailing vessels with that name served the British East India Company.

• SS Asia (1873), a Canadian steamer on the Great Lakes
