Suvarna Sahakari Bank Scam 2008

Agashe was chairman of his father's brainchild Suvarna Sahakari Bank[17] when the bank business was placed under moratorium by the Reserve Bank of India.[2] Beginning in 2007, Agashe received notice at his residence for the non-payment of loans worth Rs. 3.19 crore,[18] and in 2008, following the scandal his father was involved in,[19] Agashe and 14 others, including his father and brother, were arrested on November 22 for allegedly misappropriating Rs 436.74 crore of the bank between 1998 and 2006.[20] Leaving Agashe, all other suspects were senior citizens, who were suffering from various medical ailments, the lawyer said.[21] Inspector Narayan Khaire produced the suspects before judicial magistrate first class G G Itkalkar, following expiry of their two-day police custody remand. The court remanded the suspects to magisterial custody for 14 days.[20] While in custody, his father's health deteriorated and he was soon admitted to Sassoon Hospital, but later died from complications from diabetes; Agashe was allowed to attend the funeral under police detail.[22]
