Arteluce (founded 1935) was a lighting and interior design company. It was founded by aeronautical engineer and modern lighting pioneer Gino Sarfatti in Milan, Italy.[1] Arteluce is best known for popularizing industrial design.
Arteluce gained renown in the 1950s as a national and international reference point for the modern architecture movement in lighting.[2][3] Commissioned designers included Franco Albini and Marco Zanuso. Arteluce gained attention through participation in many exhibitions in Italy and abroad, winning a Diploma of Honour at the 1951 (IX) Milan Triennale and Compasso d'Oro awards in 1954 and 1955. In 1974 the company became a division of the Flos group, employing designers such as Matteo Thun, Ezio Didoni, Perry A. King and Marc Sadler.
A number of pieces are in the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.[4]
Notable projects
Marc Sadler was awarded a Compasso d'Oro in 1995 for the 'Drop 2' wall lamp.[5]
