Artane Castle Shopping Centre
Artaine Castle Shopping Centre is a small shopping centre in Artane, Dublin which opened in 1982. Its anchor store is Tesco Ireland, with Lifestyle Sports (closed December 2016) and Penney's. Other smaller units in the center include Gleesons Butchers, Boston Barbers, Lloyds Pharmacy, Post Office, 3 Store, Miss Daisy Florist,[1] The Book Haven,[2] Graham O'Sullivan restaurant, Funmax. The shopping complex also has a branch of the local Donnycarney/Beaumont Credit Union and a McDonalds fast food outlet (Ireland's first suburban McDonalds).
The original supermarket was Quinnsworth when the centre opened, but it was subsequently taken over by Tesco.
The spelling Artaine and Artane are both used for the area, and a rock from the original Artane Castle stands on the grounds (not true) . The centre is located beside the site of the Artane Industrial School, and St. Davids CBS. There is an oratory built by the school just behind the shopping centre.
Since the centre is predominantly a Supermarket (Tesco) with a few other shops, it has to compete with large shopping centres such as Omni Park Shopping Centre and Northside Shopping Centre as well as standalone supermarket branches of Lidl, which is located across the road and Aldi, located in Coolock.
