Kentucky Derby (1882) |
Apollo (1879–1887) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He won 24 races in his career, including the 1882 Kentucky Derby.[1]
Apollo was the second of nine geldings to win the Kentucky Derby, and is the only horse to win it without having raced as a 2-year-old.[1]
Apollo was injured as a five-year-old and was retired from racing. He was given to a friend of Morris' wife that lived in Charleston for use as a saddle horse.[2] He died in November 1887 of lockjaw.[3]
