Andrew Stirling (born 5 March 1990 in Paisley, Scotland) is a Scottish professional football player who currently plays as a midfielder for Queen of the South, having previously played for Stenhousemuir, East Stirlingshire, Kitsap Pumas, Stranraer, Dunfermline Athletic, Stirling Albion and Dumbarton.
Career
Born in Paisley, Stirling signed a full-time contract with his home-town club St Mirren at the age of sixteen.[1] After being released from The Buddies at the age of 19, Stirling signed for Scottish Second Division club Stenhousemuir. Stirling made over 40 appearances in two seasons before moving onto local rivals East Stirlingshire.[2] Stirling was with The Shire, also for two seasons, during which time he had a brief spell with Washington State club Kitsap Pumas.[1]
Stirling returned to Scotland in July 2013 and signed for Scottish League One club Stranraer. After an impressive season at Stair Park, which included being named in the 2013–14 Scottish League One Team of the Year, Stirling was given the option to return to full-time football with League One rivals Dunfermline Athletic. In May 2014, Stirling became Pars manager Jim Jefferies' third signing of the summer.[1] After 15 appearances for the Pars Stirling was sent out on loan to Stirling Albion, with manager John Potter confirming the move had been allowed to give Stirling more first team football.[3] After an unsuccessful season with the Pars, Stirling was released by the East End Park club.[4]
A few days after leaving East End Park, Stirling signed once more for former club Stranraer.[5] Stirling's first appearance after re-signing for Stranraer was in a 2-0 defeat versus Queen of the South in the Scottish Challenge Cup.[6] Stirling's first goal for Stranraer was versus Ayr United in August 2015.[7] After one season with the Blues Stirling signed for Scottish Championship club Dumbarton on a one year contract.[8] Stirling scored his first goal for the Sons was in a 1–1 draw versus first club St Mirren in September 2016. [9]
After impressing during the 2016–17 season, playing against Queen of the South, Stirling signed a pre-contract with the Dumfries club on 24 April 2017, agreeing a two-year deal from the summer of 2017.[10]
