Andy Johnson (born 14 June 1974) is a former rugby league player.
Andy Johnson's position of choice was in the second-row and comfortable in a number of other positions.
Biography
Andy Johnson was born on 14 June 1974 in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. When he turned 17 he joined his home town team and won 100 first games by playing both forwards and backs. In 1997 he participated in two Premiership Finals at the Old Trafford. The same year he played for Wigan in the World Club Challenge against the Canterbury Bulldogs which ended up with him being the 9th highest scorer. His 1998 season went sour due to a rupture in his achillies. Later on, he met with John Monie and signed a contract with London Broncos while being in London with his team mate John Clarke. He signed a contract with the Castleford Tigers in 2000 and almost missed the Challenge Cup. He quit playing after suffering an injury which he got 14 months after he signed a two-year contract with Salford City Reds. He also used to play for Huddersfield Giants and Wigan Warriors in the European Super League. Currently he lives with his wife Alex and two sons Jack and James and is raising money to fight Duchenne muscular dystrophy.[1]
