Andrew Heffernan (born 24 January 1995, in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian rugby league player who plays for Hull Kingston Rovers in the Kingstone Press Championship. He plays as a full-back, wing, centre and can also play in the halves.[2][3]

Career

Early career

He played first grade as a 17-year-old with Group Nine club Southcity in 2012.[4]

Canberra Raiders

Heffernan was in the Canberra Raiders system[2] and played in the under-20s competition.[5][4] In 2014 he was named in the Raiders 2014 NRL Auckland Nines squad.[6][7][4] He scored a try against the New Zealand Warriors on the inaugural day of the tournament.[8] He played for the Canberra Raiders against the Melbourne Storm in a trial game in 2014.[4][9]

Penrith Panthers

At the end of the 2015 season Heffernan left Canberra to join Penrith.[10] He was named in the Panthers summer training squad and secured a spot in their 2016 NRL squad.[11] He played for the Panthers in the Intrust Super Premiership.[5]

Hull Kingston Rovers

Heffernan joined Hull Kingston Rovers from the Penrith Panthers in the NRL ahead of the 2017 season.[2]

In February 2017 Heffernan made his professional début in England for Hull Kingston Rovers, scoring two tries in the victory over the Bradford Bulls.[12][13] He repeated this feat at the 2017 summer bash by scoring twice in Kr's 20-19 victory over the Bradford Bulls. He was one of Tim Sheens standout signings throughout the regular season, churning out some impressive displays in both attack and defence. This included a total of 17 tries in 20 games which averages out to 0.85 tries per game.

Malta

Heffernan is eligible to represent Malta though his Maltese heritage.[7][9][14] He was unable to represent Malta in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifiers after he was ruled out for the season following surgery on his shoulder.[15]
