History

The minor district (King Amphoe) was established on April 1, 1995 with area split from Ban Phai district.[1][2]

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15, 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts.[3] With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official.[4]

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Ban Phai, Mancha Khiri, Phra Yuen, Mueang Khon Kaen of Khon Kaen Province, and Kosum Phisai of Maha Sarakham Province.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 4 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 45 villages (muban). The township (thesaban tambon) Ban Haet covers parts of the tambon Ban Haet. There are further 4 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
