Amos Walker

Amos Walker is a fictional character in a series of books by sometime western author Loren D. Estleman. He is a private detective who lives on the Detroit-Hamtramck border and works in Detroit, Michigan.

Amos is a traditionalist when it comes to film and music. Claiming to "dress like the late show," he is definitely written for fans of forties and fifties noir. As a Vietnam vet who boxed in college and served as a military policeman, he is sharp and streetwise. But, like all good "eyes", he has an irreverent side. Amos was fired from the Detroit Police while still in Academy for punching someone out in the shower.

Being set in Detroit you can expect plenty of time spent on cars and chases; but, like Amos' old school S&W model 10 .38, the cars are more likely to be classic than cool.

In "Motor City Blue", set around 1980, Amos talks about the pain of being "30", and has aged in later novels.
