Amity University is a multi campus private research University system. The university additionally operates Amity Business School, Amity Global Business School,[3] and a law School in its name which is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in New Delhi.[4]
The university has 10 campus locations in India as well as eight international locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and London, as well as China, Mauritius, Romania, Singapore and South Africa. In 2016, Amity bought Long Island campus of St. John's University in New York City for US$22 million (£18 million).
History
The university was first established in India by legislation of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.[5] The university has various campuses in India and across the globe. As a comprehensive university, Amity University offers academic programmes in both traditional and distance learning mode.
Amity University was formed by Ashok Chauhan, the founder of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation. Amity University is India's first private university to implement reservations based on caste etc. for both faculty as well as students.[6] The school was started in 2003 with an enrollment of 120 students. In 2011, it had 80,000 students in 240 programs. It now has more than 125,000 students from all over the world.[7]
Atul Chauhan is President of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and Chancellor of Amity University.[8] Aseem Chauhan is the Additional President of the Foundation.[9] In 2007, USA Today reported that Ashok Chauhan, the founder of Amity, expected that generations of his family will control the school.[8]
In September 2015 the university signed a memorandum of understanding with the BSE Institute, a subsidiary of the Bombay Stock Exchange, to commence a 2-year distance learning MBA programme in global financial markets, that will be open to students and working professionals.[10][11]
In September 2016 the university purchased St. John's University's 170-acre campus in Oakdale, New York. [12]

Amity University, Noida is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC),[13][14] Distance education programs by Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus is recognized by Distance Education Bureau (DEB).[15] Amity Noida was accredited by the NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council) with grade A in 2012.[16] A number of management programs are accredited by ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs).[17] Amity University's Online MBA is EFMD CEL accredited.[18] Amity University, Uttar Pradesh is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).[19]
Amity University Dubai is accredited by KHDA, Government of Dubai.[20] The Dubai campus is a branch of Amity University in India and offers UGC-recognised degrees.[20]

Amity University was ranked 195 in Asia by The QS World University Rankings of 2016[22] and 121-130among BRICS nations.[21] The Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked it 251-300 in the BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings in 2017.[23] It was ranked 72nd university in India by Careers360 ranking of 2017, ninth among private universities.[25] The National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked it 86 in the overall ranking for 2017.[24]
The Amity School Of Engineering & Technology was ranked 46 in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework engineering ranking for 2017.[26] and 65 in India by Outlook India's "Top 100 Engineering Colleges In 2017".[27]
The Amity Law School, Noida was ranked 18th in India by Outlook India's "Top 25 Law Colleges In 2017".[28] The Amity School of Communication was ranked 4th in India by India Today's "India's Best Colleges 2017: Mass Communication".[29] The Amity School of Fashion Technology was ranked 12th in India by India Today's "India's Best Colleges 2017: Fashion".[30]
