Amir Coffey (born June 17, 1997) is a college basketball player for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

High school career

Attending Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, Coffey received Minnesota Mr. Basketball honors as a senior,[1] while earning Associated Press State Player of the Year[2] and Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year distinction.[3] He averaged 19.9 points during his senior season (2015-16). A four-star recruit and ranked 32th overall in ESPN’s top 100 for the class of 2016,[4] Coffey announced his decision to play college basketball at Minnesota in September 2015.[5] He scored seven points to go along with two assists and two rebounds at the 2016 Jordan Brand Classic.[6]

College career

He had an immediate impact on the Golden Gophers, finishing his freshman year as the team’s second-leading scorer (12.2ppg) and second-leading assist man at 3.1 per game,[7] earning Big Ten Conference All-Freshman Team honors.[8]

Personal

His father Richard Coffey played college basketball at Minnesota,[9] followed by a professional career in the NBA (52 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1990-91), the CBA,[10] Turkey and Spain.[11]
