Mohammed Aminul Haque is a right wing politician of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and former minister of post and telecommunications of Bangladesh.[1]
Career
Aminul was a barrister and a politician. He was elected to parliament from Rajshahi-1 constituency under the banner of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He served as the minister of post and telecommunications in the 2001 to 2005 Bangladesh Nationalist Party led coalition government.[1]
Controversy
In 2004, German telecommunications giant, Siemens, paid Aminul Haque a bribe to secure a government contract. During that same period he financed the Islamic terrorist organization, Jamat'ul Mujahadeen Bangladesh.[2]
Imprisonment
In 2008, Aminul Haque was sentenced to 31 years in prison for providing support to Jamat'ul Mujahadeen Bangladesh.[3] He was released on bail in August 2011.[4] He has since gone into hiding and is considered a fugitive.[5] He and his brother-in-law Mizanur Rahman, were charged with corruption by Anti-Corruption Commission. Mizanur Rahman, who has US citizenship, is believed to be in the United States.[6]
