Amelio D'Onofrio

Amelio D‘Onofrio is an American psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy. He has two private practice offices, one in New York City and one in Westchester County. He is also a clinical professor at Fordham University at Lincoln Center where he acts as the Director of the Psychological Services Institute. D'Onofrio is the founder of the Institute of Psychoanalytic-Existential Psychotherapy and the Florence Seminars.

Career

D‘Onofrio graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in 1985. He then went on to the University of Chicago where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1987. D’Onofrio then pursued his Ph.D. at Fordham University and graduated in 1995. D’Onofrio has been employed as a professor at Fordham University for over 20 years. He aims to teach advanced doctoral students about the power of relationships and psychotherapy. D‘Onofrio has his own private practice in the state of New York, where he specializes in psychotherapy and the transformative power of relationships, and offers supervision for students and consultation. He mainly works with adolescents, adults, and elders and treats a multitude of mental health issues.[1] D‘Onofrio is the founding director of The Florence Seminars in Mental Health held in Florence, Italy, which began in 2013. It is a week-long seminar held by leading professionals in the field of mental health, organizational leadership, and the arts and humanities to offer professional development.[2] Dr. D’Onofrio is the founder of the Institute of Psychoanalytic-Existential Psychotherapy, an advanced training for clinicians interested in learning psychotherapy at a deeper and more sophisticated level. He is also a consulting professor for the Loyola School.[3]

D’Onofrio has previously been the chief of Domiciliary Care Program for Homeless Veterans, a manager for clinical education and leadership development and an associate director and director of training for ppIona College’s counseling center. D’Onofrio is the author of Adolescent Self-Injury: A Comprehensive Guide for Counselors and Healthcare Professionals (2007).[4]

D’Onofrio received a grant for over $300,000 to do work on intervention programs for inner city students and parents exposed to chronic stress. The project will take two years and will be implemented in schools around New York City. [5] He is known most for his work as the founder of the Florence Seminars and as the director of the Psychological Services Institutes at Fordham University. D’Onofrio was voted one of “Most Influential Counseling Psychologists Alive Today” by Best Counseling Degrees.[6]Further, D’Onofrio has been interviewed by Huffington Post for his insight on psychotherapy and was the keynote speaker at the NYC Metropolitan Counseling Center Conference.[7]
