Amboli is an affluent neighbourhood of Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra, in the Andheri (West) area. Amboli was earlier known as Ambolim. It is located very close to Andheri Station and Jogeshwari.

Landmarks

Amboli was primarily inhibited by Christians,East Indians and Tribal people called waarlis. There were but a handful of houses in and around the village. Amboli was laden with green fields and numerous mango and coconut trees. The name Amboli also stemmed from the fact that there was a massive mango orchard in this neighbourhood. The most notable landmark in Andheri is St. Blaise Church. A Bollywood film studio "Filmalaya" (owned by Mukherjee-Samarth family )is located on Caesar Road in Amboli. The outdoor area of the studio was sold and a new building "Mayfair Meridian" has come up in its place. The indoor studio exists. Other notable landmarks are the Vahatuk nagar,shiv-sena shaka and the Joe and Helen Playground. La Princess is one of the best known buildings in the area. Amboli also houses a mini township of Indias leading private sector bank known as "ICICI Apartments". The land was earlier part of the "Filmalaya" till late 80s.

During late 80s and early 90s the area was also notorious for gang rivalries specially the Amboli village. It is said that many a times Mumbai police use to do planned encounters of notorious criminals in the dark bye lanes of Amboli village.

Government representatives

The area is represented by the ruling party BJP whose Member of Legislative Assembly is Ameet Satam. His only major contribution to the area has been construction of the central road meridian on Ceaser Road which is in need of urgent repairs. The poorly constructed meridian leads to frequent accidents due to sharp iron edges.
