The Amazing Race 10 is the tenth installment of the US reality television show The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 10 features twelve teams of two with a pre-existing relationship in a race around the world. Professional models Tyler Denk and James Branaman were the winners of this season. A DVD was released on May 1, 2013, courtesy of Amazon's CreateSpace program.
Production
Development and filming
The Amazing Race 10 spanned 40,000 miles (64,000 km) and covered 4 continents and 13 countries, the most countries visited in a season. Among them, six were previously unvisited by the series, including Mongolia, Kuwait, Mauritius, Madagascar, Finland, and Ukraine. None of those countries have been revisited by the series. It was also the first season to (nearly) circumnavigate the globe in a generally westward fashion, crossing the Pacific Ocean in the first leg and crossing the Atlantic on the final leg. Most other seasons transversed the globe in a generally eastward direction.
The Amazing Race 10 saw the show's first double elimination when in one leg, two teams were eliminated: one halfway through the leg, and the other at the end. It also introduced a new race marker, the Intersection, which involved having two teams work together until otherwise instructed. If no other team was available when one team read the Intersection clue, they were required to wait for another team to arrive before proceeding together. The Intersection was also shown in conjunction with a Fast Forward: when the first pair of teams completed the task, both of those teams received the benefit of the award.
Additionally, the penalty for coming in last on a non-elimination leg was changed. Instead of being stripped of money and possessions, the last place team was "Marked for Elimination". This had a consequence for the following leg, where the marked team suffered a 30-minute penalty at the Pit Stop (unless they were first to check-in), possibly allowing other teams to overtake them in the final placings for that leg.
During the Vietnam legs, all route markers were colored yellow and white rather than red and yellow, so as to avoid confusion with the flag of the former independent state of South Vietnam; these were also the original route markers in season 1. The second Vietnamese leg was also the first time in the series in which teams received race money in local currency.
Episode 4 (which contained Leg 4) was selected by CBS for consideration in the 2007 Emmy Awards,[1] and garnered five total nominations, including one for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. The episode won for Outstanding Reality-Competition, the show's fifth consecutive win in that category, having won since the category was first awarded in 2003.
Cast
Applications were accepted through January 20, 2006 (one week later than the original deadline). Semi-finalist interviews occurred in late February and early March, followed by finalist interviews in Los Angeles during late March and early April. Filming ran from May 27, 2006 to June 24, 2006.
The cast of The Amazing Race 10 was increased to 12 teams for the first time since season 4. It included best friends, a couple, college cheerleaders, boyfriends, brothers, a team member with a prosthetic leg, recovered drug addicts, beauty pageant queens, and a pair of single mothers.
Lyn & Karlyn were the first all-female team to make the final 3.
Dustin & Kandice along with David & Mary were selected to race in The Amazing Race All-Stars among a cast of returning teams from the first 10 seasons. David & Mary also appeared on The View where they received gifts from the show, including vacations, a Ford Explorer, and a new house.[2] Jamie Hill was later crowned Miss South Carolina USA 2008, and competed in the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas on April 11, 2008.[3]
While Peter & Sarah were portrayed as a newly dating and bickering couple on the race (to the extent that Sarah "broke up" with Peter during their elimination in Kuwait), Sarah Reinertsen revealed that they were friends whose "dating" was non-existent and created to give them an interesting storyline, although she did say that her displeasure over Peter's cold and hectoring behavior on the race was genuine.[4]
Following the overturning of the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013, Terry Cosentino proposed to Tom Rock in December 2013, having led Rock on a small-scale Amazing Race-styled trip through New York with assistance from Keoghan and other friends. The two married on November 12, 2016.[5]

- A red team placement indicates that the team was eliminated.
- An underlined blue team's placement indicates that the team came in last on a non-elimination leg of the race and was "Marked for Elimination"; if the team did not finish 1st on the next leg, they would receive a 30-minute penalty.
- A green ƒ indicates that the team won a Fast Forward clue.
- Matching colored symbols (pink +, brown ^, and magenta ~) indicate teams who worked together during part of the leg as a result of an Intersection.
- A yellow > means that team chose to use the Yield; < indicates the team who received it; <> indicates a leg where the Yield was available but not used.
- ^ Bilal & Sa'eed were the last team to arrive at the Meridian Gate in Forbidden City and were eliminated as per the provisions given at the start of the race (see below).
- ^ Kellie took, but failed to complete, the Roadblock in Leg 2. Already in last, Kellie & Jamie then checked into the Pit Stop, without issuing a 4-hour penalty because they came in last place and were eliminated.
- ^ Tom & Terry initially arrived 2nd, but were issued a 30-minute penalty for traveling on motorcycles, which had been specifically prohibited for safety reasons. As Tom & Terry were waiting out their penalty, Tyler & James, Rob & Kimberly, Dustin & Kandice, Peter & Sarah, Lyn & Karlyn, and David & Mary checked in, dropping Tom & Terry to 8th.
- ^ Because David & Mary finished 1st, their 30-minute "marked for elimination" penalty was nullified.
- ^ During the leg, Peter & Sarah had fallen so far behind that all the other teams had already checked into the Pit Stop before Peter & Sarah even arrived at the Detour. When they finally found their next Route Marker at Souk Sulabiya, instead of performing the Detour, Peter & Sarah were instructed to go directly to the Pit Stop, where they were eliminated.
- ^ Leg 7 featured an unaired Roadblock. It is unknown who completed the Roadblock from Erwin & Godwin and David & Mary.[6]
- ^ Due to an Intersection, Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly were able to work together to complete the Fast Forward, thus both teams were able to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop.
- ^ David & Mary initially arrived 5th, but were issued a 30-minute penalty for being "marked for elimination" and not arriving 1st. As David & Mary were waiting out their penalty, Lyn & Karlyn checked in, dropping David & Mary to last place and eliminating them.
- ^ Leg 9 was double-length, shown over two episodes, with two Detours and two Roadblocks. The placements listed in the first column reflect the order teams arrived at the leg's halfway point.
- ^ Dustin & Kandice had been "marked for elimination"; however, since Dustin & Kandice arrived at the Pit Stop in last place, they were eliminated without the 30-minute penalty being issued.

Leg 1 (United States → China)
Airdate: September 17, 2006
- Seattle, Washington, United States (Gas Works Park) (starting line)
- Seattle (Seattle–Tacoma International Airport) to Beijing, China (Beijing Capital International Airport)
- Beijing (Gold House Restaurant)
- Beijing (Forbidden City – Meridian Gate) (overnight rest and elimination point)
- Beijing (Houhai – North Bank Road)
- Beijing (Run De Li Market or Beihai Park)
- Great Wall of China (Juyongguan)
From the starting line at Seattle's Gas Works Park, teams had their clues on their bags and were told to travel to their first destination city, Beijing. They went to the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport to take one of two flights to Beijing departing at 1:22 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Upon arrival in Beijing, teams headed to Gold House Restaurant, where they encountered the first Roadblock, which asked "Who's hungry to stay in the race?" One team member had to eat the eyeballs from a fish head soup, a Chinese delicacy. When this was complete, the chef gave the teams their next clue. This directed teams to the Forbidden City and Meridian Gate, to find a kiosk and pick a slot for one of three departure times the following morning. The last team to arrive at the gate was not given a morning departure time and was eliminated.
The next morning, teams had to take to a sidecar motorbike to North Bank Road at Houhai and find the Pedicab Manager to receive their next clue. They soon discovered the Detour, a choice of Labor or Leisure. In Labor, teams had to travel one mile (1.6 km) by pedicab to Run De Li Market, where they needed to use traditional Chinese bricks and methods to pave a 45-square-foot (4 m2) section of sidewalk in a specific pattern. In Leisure, teams had to take a pedicab to Beihai Park to participate in a Chinese relaxation method known as Taiji Bailong, in which they need to successfully balance a ball on a paddle. When they completed the Detour, teams were directed to travel to the Great Wall of China along Juyongguan, and use a rope to scale the wall and climb to the Pit Stop.
Leg 2 (China → Mongolia)
Airdate: September 24, 2006
- Beijing to Erenhot
- Erenhot (Erlian Train Station) to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar train station)
- Ulaanbaatar (Choijin Lama Monastery)
- Terelj (Gorkhi-Terelj National Park)
- Gachuurt, Ulaanbaatar (Hotel Mongolia)
During the Pit Stop, teams traveled back to Beijing where they started the second leg. Teams were told to travel to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, by bus and train. Upon arriving to the city of Ulaanbaatar, teams had to find Choijin Lama Monastery and observe a Buddhist ceremony before receiving their next clue.
Teams had to drive a Soviet-era military jeep to a riverbed in Terelj and find Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Upon arrival, they had to wear traditional Mongolian army hats and ride horses 2.5 miles (4 km) until they reached the nomadic-lifestyle Detour, a choice of Take It Down or Fill It Up. In Take It Down, teams chose a yurt from among ten traditional nomadic shelters, took the canvas and roof down, packaged it for transport, and loaded it onto a camel. In Fill It Up, teams had to take a cart pulled by a hynik, an indigenous ox, 500 yards (460 m) to a river to fill four water containers, then bring them back to fill a barrel to a designated line. A nomad would give them their next clue.
From the Detour, teams rode horses back to the park's entrance. They were then directed to Hotel Mongolia in Gachuurt, where they picked up the Roadblock clue, which asked "Who's ready to aim high?" One team member had to string a traditional Mongolian bow and shoot a flaming arrow at a target 160 feet (49 m) away. After hitting the target, the team could run to the Pit Stop at a pavilion on a hill.
Leg 3 (Mongolia → Vietnam)
Airdate: October 1, 2006
- Ulaanbaatar (Chinggis Khaan Hotel)
- Ulaanbaatar (Chinggis Khaan International Airport) to Hanoi, Vietnam (Noi Bai International Airport)
- Hanoi (Hỏa Lò Prison a.k.a. "Hanoi Hilton")
- Hanoi (Old Quarter – Hàng Mã Street [Thoa Flower Shop])
- Hanoi (Ben Xe Gia Lam Bus Station) to Phố Vác
- Phố Vác (Dinh Vác Temple)
- Phố Vác (Home of Nguyĕn Văn Thuý or Nhà Thò)
- Phố Vác (Canh Dong Dia)
Teams started the leg at Chinggis Khaan Hotel. Clues instructed them to head next to the capital city of Hanoi, Vietnam. They were informed that did not have money to start the leg, with an option to not beg or sell anything. Teams were allowed to buy airline tickets to Hanoi.
When in Hanoi, teams had to head to Hỏa Lò Prison, known as the "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War, and where they had to search the grounds to find a room with John McCain's flight suit to receive their next clue. Teams were instructed to travel to Thoa Flower Shop in the Old Quarter at Hoan Kiem District, where they picked up the Roadblock clue which asked, "Who's ready to pedal some dough?" One team member had to choose a Vietnamese bicycle with a basket of flowers and sell enough to make at least 80,000₫ (VND – approximately US$5). When the florist was satisfied with their work, they would receive their next clue. Whatever money they earned, they were allowed to keep.
Teams were then directed to travel by bus to Phố Vác and find Dinh Vác Temple. There, they found the Detour, a choice between Fuel and Fowl. In Fuel, teams had to travel to the home of Nguyĕn Văn Thuý and make 30 round coal bricks, a traditional Vietnamese fuel source, by putting wet coal in a traditional press. When they properly assembled all 30 bricks, a coal maker would give them their next clue. In Fowl, teams traveled to Nhà Thò where they had to use traditional local materials to build an intricate Vietnamese birdcage. When the birdcage was properly constructed, they would receive their next clue. These clues directed teams to travel by foot to the Pit Stop at the rice paddy in Canh Dong Dia.
Leg 4 (Vietnam)
Airdate: October 8, 2006
- Hanoi (Ly Thai To Garden)
- Hanoi (Ben Xe Gia Lam Bus Terminal) to Hạ Long (Ben Xe Bai Chay)
- Hạ Long (Hydrofoil Harbor)
- Hạ Long Bay (Hon Yen Ngua)
- Hạ Long Bay (Sửng Sốt Cave (in Vietnamese))
- Hạ Long Bay (Soi Sim Island)
At the start of the leg, teams had to pick up 588,000₫ (approximately $37). They traveled to Ly Thai To Garden in Hanoi, where they had to listen to their next clue recited by megaphone: "Attention racers! Here is your clue! Taxi across the Red River to Ben Xe Gia Lam. Then take a bus to Ben Xe Bai Chay. Then find the Hydrofoil Harbor." They had to determine that their next destination was at Hạ Long.
At Hạ Long's Hydrofoil Harbor, teams picked up their next clue. (There was a Yield here, which was not aired as it was not used.) The clue was for the Roadblock, which asked "Who's got strong arms and legs?" One team member had to use a mechanical ascender to climb 90 feet (27 m) up the sheer face of the cliff at Hon Yen Ngua, retrieve their clue, and then rappel down.
The clue instructed teams to travel by motorboat to Sửng Sốt Cave, where they found the Detour: a choice of Over or Under. In both Detours, teams were taken to the water by a junk, then given a sampan to row. In Over, teams had to row to a provisions ship, load supplies onto the sampan, then row to a floating village to deliver goods to the specific addresses on their invoice. When finished, teams rowed back to the provisions ship and present the finished invoice to the captain who would give them their next clue. In Under, teams had to take a marked buoy and row the sampan to a pearl farm, where they chose a line of buoys and hauled 30 baskets out of the sea and into their boats. They had to deliver the baskets to a pearl farmer to receive their next clue. The clues instructed teams to take a junk to Soi Sim Island for the Pit Stop.
Leg 5 (Vietnam → India)
Airdate: October 15, 2006
- Haiphong (Haiphong Train Station) to Hanoi (Hanoi Train Station)
- Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport to Chennai, India (Chennai International Airport)
- Chennai to Mamallapuram
- Mamallapuram (Vallavar Arts & Crafts)
- Mamallapuram (Madras Crocodile Bank or Sri Sthala Sayana Perumal Temple)
- Mamallapuram to Chennai
- Chennai (Karthik Driving School)
- Chennai (Chettinad House)
From Ha Long Bay Harbor, teams were told to travel to the city of Chennai, India. They first took a train from Haiphong to Hanoi and then booked airline tickets at a travel agency. Once they arrived in Chennai, they had to take a bus to Mamallapuram and find the owner of Vallavar Arts & Crafts for their next clue, which was the Detour.
The Detour was a choice between Wild Things or Wild Rice. In Wild Things, teams had to make their way nine miles (14 km) to Madras Crocodile Bank, locate pit 16, and help the workers wrangle a marsh crocodile and transport it to a new pit. In Wild Rice, teams made their way 200 yards (180 m) to Sri Sthala Sayana Perumal Temple, where they chose an outline of a traditional floral design shown on the temple floor. Using a picture for reference, they had to use colored powder made from rice to color-in the outline so that it matched the picture.
Completing the Detour, teams were instructed to return to Chennai by bus and find Karthik Driving School. There, they encountered the Roadblock, which asked "Who's the driving force behind this team?" One team member had to attend a driver's education class, then navigate the congested streets for a driving test while driving on the left-hand side of the road. When they passed the driving test and obtained an Indian driver's license, they received a clue which directed them to drive the instructor's car to the Pit Stop at Chettinad House.
Leg 6 (India → Kuwait)
Airdate: October 22, 2006
- Chennai (Chennai International Airport) to Kuwait City, Kuwait (Kuwait International Airport)
- Kuwait City (Kuwait Towers)
- Kuwait City (Souk Al-Gharabally)
- Kuwait City (Souk Sulabiya or Kuwait Camel Racing Club)
- Kuwait City (Al Sadiq Water Towers)
At the start of the leg, teams received a mobile phone with a video message for their next destination, which they had to determine was Kuwait Towers. After flying to Kuwait City, they had to pick a marked vehicle and travel to the towers for their next clue.
The clue at Kuwait Towers notified teams of a Fast Forward. To claim the Fast Forward, one team was required to wear protective gear and use a flame retardant shield to approach a simulated oil fire at the oil well on 6th Ring Road, with temperatures of over 1,000 °F (538 °C), to retrieve the award from a cluebox. Otherwise, teams had to do the Roadblock, which asked "Who's strong in both mind and body?" One team member had to climb a ladder to the top of one of the towers, 610 feet (190 m) above the ground, to receive a satchel filled with puzzle pieces. They then had to go to the ground and assemble the puzzle to reveal the name of the street which was their next destination.
After traveling to Souk Al-Gharabally, teams had to find a marked stall in the marketplace, where they found instructions for the Detour: a choice of Manual or Automatic. In Manual, teams drove to an area known as Souk Sulabiya and had to fill ten 110-pound (50 kg) bags of camel feed to a marked line. When all ten bags were filled, they had to transport them 100 yards (91 m) to a pallet and properly stack them to get their next clue. In Automatic, teams went to the Kuwait Camel Racing Club where they used a walkie-talkie to operate a voice activated robotic jockey attached to a camel. When the camel ran a 140-yard (130 m) course, a wrangler would give them their next clue. The clues sent teams to a desert outpost and the Pit Stop at Al Sadiq Water Towers.
Leg 7 (Kuwait → Mauritius)
Airdate: October 29, 2006
- Kuwait City (Kuwait International Airport) to Plaine Magnien, Mauritius (Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport)
- Grand Baie (Isla Mauritia boat)
- Port Louis (Merville Beach Hotel) (unaired )
- Case Noyale (Post Office)
- Les Salines de Petite Rivière Noire or Île aux Benitiers
- Bel Ombre (Château Bel Ombre)
At the start of the leg, teams were told to travel to the island country of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar. Upon arrival, teams had to search inside a marked car for a model boat, which had the clue "Isla Mauritia" and "Swim to Me". Teams had to determine their next location was Grand Baie, where they had to swim to the ship for their next clue. (Note: There was a Roadblock in this leg, however it was not aired. The clue is clearly visible with Dustin & Kandice in one of the stills for the episode on the show's website.[7])
Teams were told to travel to the Case Noyale Post Office, where they encountered the Detour, a choice between Salt or Sea. In Salt, teams had to search through three giant piles of salt, the key of the country's economy, for a salt shaker containing their next clue. In Sea, teams had to choose a boat pilot, then travel by motorboat to Île aux Benitiers 2.5 miles (4 km) away. There, they had to search the island using a treasure map to find the boat's sail, carry it back to the boat, attach it, and sail back. Clues then instructed teams to travel to the Pit Stop at Château Bel Ombre.
Leg 8 (Mauritius → Madagascar)
Airdate: November 5, 2006
- Plaine Magnien (Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport) to Antananarivo, Madagascar (Ivato International Airport)
- Antananarivo (Lac Anosy – Black Angel statue)
- Antananarivo (Tohotohobato Ambondrona Analakely)
- Antananarivo (Cathedral Andohalo)
At the start of the leg, teams had to fly to the island country of Madagascar. Upon arriving in its capital of Antananarivo, they had to find the Black Angel statue in Lac Anosy. There, they encountered the Intersection twist where two teams must cooperate to perform tasks together. There was also a Fast Forward clue, which required intersected teams to travel 2.5 miles (4 km) to Analakely Market and eat one full serving of beef muzzle, a French-inspired local delicacy. When they cleaned their plates, the two teams would win the Fast Forward.
The other intersected teams must perform the Detour: Long Sleep or Short Letter. In Long Sleep, teams traveled by van 2.2 miles (3.5 km) to an open market where they had to wrap eight mattresses with a cover and deliver them on foot approximately one mile (1.6 km) through the streets of Antananarivo to a specific address. When the delivery was complete, the homeowner handed them their next clue. In Short Letter, teams traveled by van 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to a paper-working station where they had to work together to successfully make 28 pieces of handcrafted paper. When the artisan signaled that they had correctly made their paper, they would receive their next clue. The Intersection ended after the Detour, and teams continued the leg individually.
Teams were instructed to travel to Tohotohobato Ambondrona Analakely, where they encountered the Roadblock, which asked "Who can cut through the red tape?" One team member had to go up steep staircases and find four different rubber stamp vendors with matching stamps to their clue (a boat, train, airplane, and car). When they had collected all four impressions, they would proceed to the Pit Stop at Cathedral Andohalo where their teammates were waiting.
Leg 9 (Madagascar → Finland → Ukraine)
Airdates: November 12 and 19, 2006
- Antananarivo (Ivato International Airport) to Helsinki, Finland (Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport)
- Helsinki (Kappeli Café)
- Helsinki (Helsinki Central railway station) to Tampere (Tampere railway station)
- Ylöjärvi (Soppeenharjun Koulu (in Finnish))
- Tampere (Tampere railway station) to Turku (Turku Central railway station)
- Lohja (Tytyri Limestone Mine)
- Helsinki (Helsinki Olympic Stadium Tower)
- Helsinki (Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport) to Kiev, Ukraine (Boryspil Airport)
- Oster, Chernihiv Oblast (169th District Training Centre, Ukrainian Ground Forces or Oster Tank School)
- Kiev (Apartment 33)
- Kiev (Dance & Groove or Ukrainian National Music Academy)
- Kiev (National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War)
Teams had to travel to the city of Helsinki, Finland. (Due to limited availability of flights out of Madagascar, teams were reserved seats on a flight from Antananarivo to Paris, but were under no obligation to use them; all of the teams made other arrangements.) Upon arriving in Helsinki, teams had to head to Kappeli Café and find the marked laptop, which they used to log in to AOL and receive a video from their loved ones. When they watched their videos, the owner of the cafe would give them their next clue.
Teams traveled by train to Tampere and by taxi to the city of Ylöjärvi, to find Soppeenharjun Koulu. From there, they followed a marked path and searched the grounds outside the school, where they found the first Detour: Swamp This or Swamp That. Both options are methods by which Finnish athletes keep themselves in shape during the warmer months. In Swamp This, teams have to trudge through a bog on cross country skis, completing a one-mile (1.6 km) course. In Swamp That, teams had to complete an obstacle course through a bog, requiring them to crawl, climb, and carry each other.
Following the Detour, teams were instructed to travel by train to Turku, then to the Tytyri Limestone Mine in the town of Lohja, where they found the first Roadblock, which asked "Who's ready for a miner inconvenience?" One team member had to ride a bike down a steep hill, search the Lohja mine for a marked dig site, and retrieve a piece of limestone. They then had to return to the start point, and use tools to break the limestone open to obtain their next clue from inside. Teams were then instructed to travel to Helsinki Olympic Stadium, and sent to the top of the 236-foot (72 m) tower. They then had to do a face-first rappel known as an Angel Dive. As teams completed this task, their clue at the end of the episode told them to keep racing.
Following the rappel, teams were instructed to travel to the country of the Chernobyl disaster, and had to determine that their destination is Ukraine. Upon arrival to its capital of Kiev, they were provided Soviet-era Volga cars for transportation, and given their next clue.
The next destination was Ukraine's premiere tank school at Oster, in the outskirts of the city. There, they found the second Roadblock, which asked "Who's ready to take command?" One team member had to command a Soviet T-64 Tank through a one-and-a-half-mile (2.4 km) oval-shaped training course used for simulated military exercises. When they successfully completed the course, the officer would hand out their next clue.
Teams were instructed to return to Kiev and find an apartment address, which was the second Detour: Make the Music or Find the Music.[8] In Make the Music, teams traveled three miles (4.8 km) to Dance & Groove, a hip hop/dance club in Kiev's underground rap movement, and had to perform a rap song incorporating the names of all of the nations visited so far on the Race. When the judge approved their show, they were given the next clue. In Find the Music, the teams had to go 2.5 miles (4.0 km) to the Ukrainian National Music Academy. There, they had to search through thousands of pieces of sheet music for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Concert Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra. When they had the correct music, they needed to search 120 practice rooms for one of six pianists to perform the piece for them. When the pianist completed the piece, they would get their next clue. In both Detours, teams had to dress up to blend in with the people. Completing the Detour, clues sent them to the Pit Stop at Kiev's Great Patriotic War Museum.

Teams were instructed to travel to Ouarzazate, Morocco, located at the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Upon arrival, they had to head to Ouarzazate's Kasbah district and search for an antique shop known as Antiquittés du Sud. There, they received their next clue and one of four pendants (one of which was a good luck charm which they could exchange for a prize at the Pit Stop).
The clue told teams to travel to the Atlas Film Studios, where they had to search beneath the studio's backlot for a clue. They found the Yield (Dustin & Kandice chose to yield Lyn & Karlyn) and the Roadblock, which asked "Who wants to be a gladiator?" One team member had to dress like an ancient gladiator and race a chariot. While racing, they would have to pull down two colored flags matching the livery of their horse. When they possessed both flags, the Charioteer would give them their next clue.
Teams were then instructed to head to the rural town of Idelssan and find Café La Pirgola, where they discovered the Detour: Throw It or Grind It. In Throw It, teams traveled four miles (6.4 km) to Guedara to a marked pottery shop, where they made two clay pots. The potter would give them their next clue when the pots were made to his specifications. In Grind It, teams traveled four miles (6.4 km) towards Ouarzazate to North Africa Horse, where they had to use crushing mills to grind 77 pounds (35 kg) of olives and pack them into bags. When they had properly crushed and packed the olives, the olive miller would give them their next clue. Each Detour selection only had workstations for three teams. After completing the Detour, teams drove toward Marrakech until they reached a marker, where they turned into the desert to the Berber camp that served as the Pit Stop.

The clue informed teams to travel to Paris, France. Upon arrival, they had to head to the Eiffel Tower and use the elevator to find the next clue.
Teams had to take a train to Caen and find Caen-Carpiquet Airport, where they encountered the final Roadblock, which asked "Who's ready to storm the beach?" One team member had to perform a 13,000-foot (4,000 m) tandem skydive, with a skydive instructor, over Normandy. The other team member, remaining in the plane, would be treated to a surprise nosedive. - Notes
- ^ When flying to Paris, Rob & Kimberly and Tyler & James chose to fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport, while Lyn & Karlyn chose to fly to Orly Airport. When flying to New York, while the other two teams managed to take the earlier flight to JFK International Airport, Lyn & Karlyn took the remaining flight to Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey. Since the time difference between the two flights was too great, footage of Lyn & Karlyn completing tasks in New York City was not aired.
