Amalgamated Workers Union

The Amalgamated Workers Union (AWU) is a Trade Union registered in Trinidad and Tobago under the Trade Union Ordinance Act No. 20 of 1932 ^[1] Registration No. 60. The bulk of its membership are employed by the Port of Spain City Corporation^[2], Bermudez Biscuit Company Ltd^[3], Belgroves Funeral Home & Co. Ltd^[4], East Side Plaza^[5] & New City Mall^[6].

In 2016 the Union reached a historical milestone within the organization when, the membership elected its first ever female General Secretary Mrs Cassandra Tommy-Dabreo^[7]. Even further, another feat was achieved in this as Mrs. Tommy-Dabreo, who comes from the Bermudez Biscuit Company Branch, was also the first ever Union Officer from outside the Port-of-Spain City Corporation Branch to be elected to the post of General Secretary.

This Union is one of the founding members of the Joint Trade Union Movement ^[8]which was started around 2011.
