Allen Hershkowitz is a American environmental scientist and entrepreneur. Previously served as a senior scientist at Natural Resources Defense Council from 1988 to 2014[1], Hershkowitz is known for his use of environmental science in managing sports business.[2]

Career

Hershkowitz was responsible for greening of Warner Music Group, and Grammy Award between 2007 and 2013.[3] and the 50th, 51st and 52nd GRAMMY Awards.[4] His greening has more influence in professional sports, overseeing greening of Major League Baseball[5], National Basketball Association[6] the U.S. Tennis Association,[7], National Hockey League[8], NASCAR, the USTA, Major League Baseball and others. For his work with environmental science in professional sports, he was awarded Environment Merit from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2008.[9]

In December 2015, Hershkowitz was assigned the role of directing and curating two summits in 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Stade de France and Grand Palais.[10][11] The participation of representatives from major American professional sports associations marked the first time the sports industry were directly involved with climate change initiatives by the United Nations.[12] In October 2016, Hershkowitz was noted as the only environmental scientist presenting in the sports summit hosted by Pope Francis at the Vatican City.[13]

Hershkowitz was a distinguished visiting faculty at Presidio Graduate School from 2014 to 2015, where he taught sustainability management. He has been a guest lecturer at many institutions.[14] Hershkowitz also served as a board member of the committee for sludge incineration at EPA.[15]

Personal Life

Hershkowitz was raised in Brooklyn and currently resides in Waccabuc, New York. He is married to Dale Clearwater and has three children.
