All Hallows School is a co-educational Catholic prep school that provides day and boarding facilities. The school is located a mile east of Cranmore village, near the town of Frome, Somerset, in the West of England. As of 2014 the school has 300 pupils, including 60 boarders.[2] An ISI inspection in July 2014 rated all areas of the school as 'Excellent', the highest possible rating.[2]
History
All Hallows was founded as a boys' school in 1938 by Francis Dix but not at the current location. Shortly after World War II, the school moved into the Grade II* listed Cranmore Hall — the former home of Sir Richard and Lady Paget — which had been used as a maternity hospital during the war.[3]
The school became co-educational in 1971. In 2006 the school acquired a new modern classroom block, the Crane Wing. The name of Cranmore derives from Crane's Mere — the original name for the area based upon the name of the bird and the former wetlands it inhabited. In 2007 an extension to the reception classroom was built.
Boarding
Boarding is very much at the heart of what All Hallows offers, and it is physically at the heart of the school as well, with the dormitories in the main Manor House. Boys and girls board on different landings, with dormitories arranged by age. There are a mix of full- and flexi-boarders, and regular age-appropriate activities are held to keep children entertained in the evening.
Military
The school is proud of its military links and generous financial discounts are available for military families, with transport also being available to take children living in Warminster garrison to and from the school each day.
