The Hon. Alice Louise Walpole OBE (born 1 September 1963) is a British diplomat who is the current British ambassador to Mali. She previously served as the British ambassador to Luxembourg, holding the position from July 2011–16.[1]
Early life
Alice is the daughter of Robert Walpole, 10th Baron Walpole of Mannington Hall, North Norfolk, and his first wife, Judith Chaplin OBE MP (née Schofield).[2]
Alice attended Norwich High School for Girls. She went to the University of Cambridge, where she was a member of New Hall (now Murray Edwards College).
Career
She joined the FCO in 1985.[1]
Ambassador
Following a posting as HM Consul-General in Basra, Iraq (2009–11), she became the Ambassador to Luxembourg in July 2011. In 2016, she became the Ambassador to Mali.[1]
Personal life
In 1990, she married Dr Angel Carro Castrillo (of Switzerland), with whom she has six children (Hester and Beatrice, 1990; Isobel, 1993; Inigo, 1996; and Ralph and Edmund (Ned) 1999).[2] They divorced in 2010, having separated in 2002.
She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to British Diplomacy.[3]
