Ali's Wedding is an upcoming 2017 Australian romantic comedy feature film from Matchbox Pictures.[2][3][4] It is directed by Jeffrey Walker and written by Osamah Sami starring Helana Sawires (actor) and Don Hany (actor).
Plot
After a reckless lie sets off a catastrophic chain of events, Ali (Osamah Sami), son of a Muslim cleric (Don Hany), finds himself caught between his sense of duty and following his heart - to follow through with his arranged marriage, or be with the girl he loves.[5]
Story
Meet Ali, the charming son of a Muslim cleric who despite the best of intentions, just can’t seem to make the right life choices.
Ali dreams big – he wants to be with the girl he loves, but he’s been promised to another girl at his father’s mosque. He wants to be the great doctor that the community expects him to be, but he doesn’t get the marks. And above all he wants to make his father proud. Really proud.
So, what will Ali do to live up to the impossible expectations? Fake it. And it’s one bad decision after another as Ali’s wayward quest to please his father spirals out of control, with cataclysmic consequences.[6]
Sami says "It's history making, the first Muslim rom-com, so it's going to hopefully pave the way for many other similar stories," he said. "Not just from the Muslim community but from other communities and minorities in our society."
It is an "affectionate and poignant story of love" was about casting a more positive light on Muslim-Australian life. [7]
