Alex Melen is an award-winning serial entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of web hosting company T35 Hosting and advertising agency Melen, LLC (dba SmartSites).

Early life and education

Alex Melen was born to Arkady and Alla Melen in Kiev, Ukraine. Melen moved to the United States in 1991 and grew up in New York City and Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Melen graduated from Babson College in 2006.

Career

Melen started T35 Hosting, one of the first free hosting providers, in 1999[2]. The service grew it to over 600,000 clients by 2009 and was ranked in the top 7,000 website in the world.[3][4] In 2011, Melen Co-Founded advertising agency Melen, LLC (dba SmartSites) with his younger brother Michael Melen.[5] Melen also founded SocialJump, social media marketing agency that was featured on NPR[6] and later sold.

Awards and recognition

In 2001, YoungBiz Magazine named Melen one of the top 100 Young Entrepreneurs in America.[7] In 2006 Melen received the Babson College Student Business of the Year Award[8] and was named one of BusinessWeek's Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25.[9][10] In 2009, Melen was a presenter at ResellerClub's HostingCon[11] and T35 Hosting was featured in Bloomberg Top 101 Best Freebies.[12] In November 2012, Melen was invited to the White House by President Barack Obama to meet with the administration about young entrepreneurship.[13] Melen was also featured in the Empact Top 100 Showcase for 2013 and 2014.[14][15]

Speaking

In October 2016, Melen was a featured speaker on Marketing in a Cut-Throat Industry at Penton's HostingCon Europe 2016[16] in Amsterdam. In 2017, Melen was a featured speaker at HostingCon Global in Los Angeles[17][18], DomainingEurope 2017[19][20] in Berlin, and NameSummit[21][22][23] in New York City.
