Prince Alessandro della Torre e Tasso, 1st Duke of Castel Duino,[1][2] full German name: Alexander Karl Egon Theobald Lamoral Johann Baptist Maria, Prinz von Thurn und Taxis[1][2] (8 July 1881 in Schloss Mzell, Mzell, Kingdom of Bohemia, Austria–Hungary[1][2] 11 March 1937 in Castel Duino, Duino, Kingdom of Italy[1][2]) was a Prince of Thurn of Taxis and a member of the Bohemian line of the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis.[1][2] Alessandro was created a Prince della Torre e Tasso and first Duke of Castel Duino by Victor Emmanuel III of Italy after relocating to the Kingdom of Italy in 1923.[1][2][3]

Family

Alessandro was the third child and son of Prince Alexander Johann of Thurn and Taxis and his wife Princess Marie of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg- Schillingsfürst.[1][2] He was a great-great-great-grandson of Alexander Ferdinand, 3rd Prince of Thurn and Taxis and his wife Princess Maria Henriette Josepha of Fürstenberg-Stühlingen.

Marriage and issue

Alessandro married first to Princess Marie of Ligne, daughter of Louis, 9th Prince of Ligne and his wife Elisabeth de la Rochefoucauld, civilly on 27 January 1906 and religiously on 29 January 1906 in Paris.[1][2] Alessandro and Marie had three children together:[1][2]

Alessandro and Marie divorced in 1912/1919.[1][2] Alessandro married for a second time in 1932, in Vrana, to Helena "Ella" Holbrook Walker (1875-1959),[1][2] who was married and divorced to Count Manfred Matuschka and to James Hazen Hyde.[5]
