Alas Uruguay was an airline in Uruguay. It was founded by former employees of PLUNA, which closed in 2012, as a public company most of its life, or mixed economy in recent years, although Alas Uruguay was started as a private company. Its bases were Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo and Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International Airport in Punta del Este. The new company of former PLUNA workers adopted the name Alas-U, but in October 2013 renamed it to Alas Uruguay. It commenced operations the 21st of January, 2016 using Boeing 737 aircraft.
Alas Uruguay was a worker-owned company, self-managed by it workers.
History
Since the collapse of PLUNA in 2012, after 76 years of being founded in 1936. The new company was initially called Alas-U, and in October 2013 reformulated Alas Uruguay. It was the unofficial flag carrier of Uruguay. Alas Uruguay commenced operations January 21st, 2016 with a flight from Montevideo to Asunción, Paraguay.

The first Boeing 737-300 equipped with blended winglets was delivered to the airline in January 2015. Sourced from Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), it was painted in Porto Alegre, Brazil. A second aircraft sourced from UIA and third from Southwest Airlines were also delivered in 2015.
