Ala is a settlement on the Swedish island of Gotland. Formerly a socken,[3] on 1 January 2016, it was reconstituted into the administrative area Ala District.[4]

Ala is known for the old carvings, some medieval, of ships on the walls of the church tower. The carvings are reminiscent of the one in Fide.[5]

Geography

Ala is situated in the central east part of Gotland.[6] The medieval Ala Church is located in the socken.[7]
