Al-Sahawat Times (لصَحَوة in Arabic) (meaning The Awakening)[1] is a daily print and digital broadsheet newspaper originating from Oman.[2]

History

The newspaper was founded in 2007 in Oman by the "Oman Media Group" before expanding to UAE with investment from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The newspaper closed for one day (29 January 2017) before being taken over by The International Press and Media Group[3][4] the following day.

The International Press and Media Group is a UK 250 listed corporation.[4]

Al-Sahawat Times is printed in English, Arabic, Urdu, Swahili, Persian and Bosnian.

The newspaper's website and online news portal were reset during the latest acquisition and merger.

In 2017 Al-Sahawat Times' owning Media Group, The International Press and Media Group underwent significant corporate restructuring when the former Chief Executive Officer stepped down as CEO and President due to ill health only taking the role of CFO. By mid 2017 the CFO was unable to continue and an entire new board was introduced.[5] The board members of Al-Sahawat Times now include Royalty and Nobility from Oman and the UAE.

Editorial style

The newspaper's editors tightly control the journalists' content ensuring that all content meets Al-Sahawat's Code of Ethics which it displays in its papers and on its online news portals.[6]

Stories cover a wide range of topics relevant to global interests as opposed to being regionally or culturally specific. The newspaper at times shows a lean towards positive stories titled "Good News", Liberal Left politics, Art, Finance, Literature and Islam.[1]

Countries available

Although Al-Sahawat Times is published globally in a variety of languages, it is divided into a complex corporate structure of subsidiaries and parent groups.[7] With key offices in the GCC region of the Middle East, East Africa, South Africa, London, USA and Barcelona, it attracts readers from all continents with strong readerships in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Russia, East Asia, South Asia, Americas and Australasia.

Websites

Al-Sahawat Times' controlling media group runs a corporate central site[3] as well as title specific sites for each of its publications.[2][8]

Al-Sahawat Times also has its own dedicated and fully licensed channel on Apple News.[3] The newspaper also uses official social media networks such as Twitter, YouTube, SnapChat, Telegram, Instagram, FaceBook Pages, Google Plus, Pinterest and LinkedIn as a means of distributing a limited selection of its content for free, globally.[9] Al-Sahawat Times also shares some of it's content through branded licensed channels in Print, Digital and Broadcast media such as Google News.
