Achada Grande is a settlement in the northeastern part of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. It is situated near the coast, 6 km southeast of Mosteiros and is connected with a branch road with Corvo and the Fogo Circular Road. Its 2010 population is approximately 500. Nearby settlements include Corvo to the north and Relva to the southeast.
As with other parts of Fogo, Agriculture is its main industry. Its climate is slightly cooler than the low lying areas of Mosteiros, Corvo and Relva.
It is one of the places on the island where the island of Santiago can be seen.
Each year, the festival of Saint Anthony (Santo António) is celebrated on June 13.[2]
History
Around 73,000 BC or 75,000 years ago, the area was formed as part of the interior of the earlier Fogo Mountain, its landscape before was about 1,000-1,5000 meters (3,000-4,500 feet) higher, the eastern half collapsed and with some erosion and lava flow over the centuries, it would form the current landscape.
