Since 2003, he has advocated for democracy and good governance in Kenya in a research process dubbed “After the Promise”, which critically analyses performance of government and other political actors.

Controversy

In October 31 2016, he was ejected in ODM where he'd once vied to be its chairman over what was believed to be an attempt to consolidate the support behind the current chairman's Raila Odinga bid for presidency. Ababu Namwamba though an ODM member felt that Raila Odinga the party leader (who had vied for presidency and twice), was no longer capable of convincing the masses to vote for him. Eventually Ababu Namwamba became a private candidate.
