A Northern Chorus was a Canadian band from Hamilton, Ontario. They released four records on the Sonic Unyon label.

History

The band was formed in 1999 by singers/guitarists Stu Livingstone and Pete Hall after their previous group, Datura Dream Defered, disbanded. Other original members included bassist Mark Raymond and drummer Dan Jagt, who were later joined by violinist Erin Aurich.[1]

The band's first album, Before We All Go To Pieces, was originally released by Black Mountain Music, and later on Sonic Union. Raymond left the band and was replaced by Owen Davies. A second album, Spirit Flags, followed.[2][3] Cellist Alex McMaster joined the band soon after, and later flautist Julie MacDonald also joined. Violinist Sarah MacGregor replaced Aurich during the recording of the band's next album, Bitter Hands Resign.[4] After the album was released, drummer Marshall Bureau left and was replaced by Steve Hasselink.[5]

Erin Aurich rejoined the band in time to be included on their fourth album, The Millions Too Many.[6][7] This album included Craig Halliday on percussion and horn player Ben Bowen.

The band toured both nationally in Canada and internationally in the United States several times.[8]

The band announced the end of their career in May 2008 with two final shows scheduled on June 27 (Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto) and June 28 (Hamilton), 2008.[9] They did, however, play a few shows in 2009.[10]

In August 2011, the band reunited its Millions Too Many lineup to play two shows in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. In June 2014, they reunited once again to play a show in Hamilton.
