AOMEI OneKey Recovery, developed by AOMEI Technology, is a utility for creating a custom recovery partition designed to backup and restore systems with one key recovery. Supported Windows systems can back up to a local drive (Free edition) or an external drive (Paid versions only).

Editions

There are five editions of AOMEI One Key Recovery: Free, Professional, Premium, Technician, and Customisation.[2]

Functionality

Every available edition contains the basic functions, though the Free version is limited. Some of the features that are not included in the Free edition include: backing up one system to another location; changing the compression level of the backup; restoration of a system for local disk or external disk.

OneKey is used to back up systems and creates a factory partition where the system backup image is saved in the system disk. The recovery partition is hidden by default. The utility restores the computer to its factory settings or to a previously backed up state. It recovers the Operating System as well as all applications, drivers, and all personal data as it was in the initial state.

Weaknesses

With the release of V1.6 of OneKey, the utility changed from freeware to paid software, subsequently making the features of the free edition very limited. All editions require enough space on the system disk to store the system image.

For some computers, it is essential to download Windows AIK for the software to function.

Critical reception

Lifehacker reviewed OneKey Recovery 2015 who recommended the use of OneKey Recovery in order to create your own recovery partition and promoted it as another tool in one's arsenal against viruses.[3]

PC Advisor's editor Nick Peers reviewed the 1.5 version and noted that “If you want to recreate your computer’s recovery partition or create a custom one based on its current setup, AOMEI OneKey Recovery does the job.” However, he said that there are multiple barriers to this. An example of this is that it is essential to have Windows AIK as well as the necessity to have enough free space on the primary drive for the recovery partition.[4]

The Windows Club reviewed AOMEI OneKey Recovery 2014, with Anand Khanse (Administrator of TWC) noting that “Due to the utility, simplicity and efficiency of this tool, we give a thumbs up". He further noted that he appreciated the product's user-friendly interface.[5]

Softpedia editor, Alexandru Dulcianu reviewed AOMEI OneKey Recovery 2014 and expressed concern over the small number of features and its design as being purely for personal use; giving the product a score of 3 out of 5. in light of this, he also said the utility can effectively save and restore documents, and the wizard-driven interface makes it easy to use for inexperienced users.[6]
