ABC North and West SA is a local radio station based in Port Pirie, South Australia, owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Its callsign is 5CK and is transmitted on AM.

History

In 1932 5CK was a country station in South Australia and the fourth in Australia. 5CK's role was a relay transmitter of the then Australian Broadcasting Commission until 1955 when the first program aired. It was initially provided with a 6.25/7 kW STC transmitter.[1]

The station and its transmitters are heard on both the AM and FM bands.

On Air Content

Andy Gall hosts Breakfast. The shows is on air from 5:55am until 7:45am.

Sarah Tomlinson presents Mornings, from 8:30am until 11am. The show is also broadcast from 9am on ABC West Coast SA.

Annette Marner hosts Late Afternoons, which is broadcast not only on ABC North and West, but across regional South Australia and Broken Hill in western New South Wales.

Weekends from 6am until 8am is presented by Brenton Hobart.

Morning news bulletins are produced by the North and West news team, with journalists based in Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Port Lincoln covering the mid-north, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island far-north and west, as well as the Eyre Peninsula and west coast of South Australia. They produce bulletins on weekdays at 6;30am, 7:30am and 8:30am, which supplement bulletins broadcast from Adelaide at 6am, 7am, 7:45am and throughout the rest of the day at the top of the hour. Weekend news bulletins are broadcast from Adelaide. The local bulletins are also broadcast on ABC West Coast SA.

The Rural Report is broadcast at 6:40am on weekdays. The 15-minute show is co-produced and presented by ABC Rural reporters in Port Pirie, and is also broadcast across the Eyre Peninsula and West Coast.

A news bulletin for regional South Australia and Broken Hill is presented at Midday from ABC North and West.
