4490 Ventures
4490 Ventures is a Madison, Milwaukee, and Northern Wisconsin[1] early-stage information technology venture capital fund.
The "early stage venture fund"[2] began with 30 million dollars[3][4][5][6] from the State of Wisconsin Investment Board and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.[4][7][8]
4490 Ventures "is intended to generate attractive returns and build value for state retirement fund participants and WARF’s primary beneficiary, the University of Wisconsin–Madison" and will focus on early-stage companies primarily in Wisconsin.[9] Its goal is to "to diversify investing operations at the two bodies beyond their historical emphasis on life sciences companies—and to provide more local support for nascent software or hardware ventures".[10]
Greg Robinson, a former San Francisco, California Bay Area venture capital investor, is the general partner.[11][4][12][13]
The venture capital fund is a lead investor in HealthMyne[14] and has also invested in Abodo[15] and EatStreet.[16]
The majority of the 4490 portfolio companies have to be based in Wisconsin.[10]
