The 2016–17 Vitória FC da Praia season are in the island division of football (soccer) and is their current season.
Santiago Island League (South)
Unlike its previous seasons, Vitória would be at its worst position for the club again, the club suffered a three-match losing streak and lost to Boavista, Tchadense and Eugénio Lima. On December 4, the club scored the season's first goal and made a draw to Sporting. A scoreless draw was followed on December 11. Vitória made another scoreless draw, this time to Garridos of São Domingos on January 7. A two-match losing streak was followed and lost to Travadores to Bairro. Another single goal draw was made on January 28, this time to Celtic Praia. A six match losing streak was followed, first to Desportivo, then Boavista, the first two were the worst matches for the club for four weeks, Tchadense, Eugénio Lima, Sporting which was Vitória's worst match of the season, Benfica and Académica and made the club suffering, the club was placed in the 50/50 zone for rounds 19 and 20, it also slimmed the chances to remain in the Premier Division. Until the 16th round, they scored the least number of goals, afterwards, the goals conceded was shared with Garridos. After 18 matches, the club made a win on March 26 and defeated Os Garridos 3-4 and made it the highest scoring match for the club and slowed their slimming the chance to remain in the division but this was their last, also the conceded 40 goals. A week later, Vitória lost to the top three clubs of Praia, Travadores 1-2 and was placed in the relegation zone and became inescapable. Vitória made their second win defeating ADESBA 1-2, the club conceded 42 goals, the second most in the regions, two less than Garridos and four goals more than Travadores. A third win (also their last in the Premier Division) was followed and defeated Celtic Praia on April 22. Vitória FC da Praia was in last place in the regionals and became a part of their second/third downfall of a historically major club. No goals were conceded at the 21st round and was the first in almost a year and was a goal more than Travadores and three less than Os Garridos. The last time the club did not concede a goal in a match at the regional championships was on April 24, 2016 in a match with Eugénio Lima. Vitória lost the final match of the season to Desportivo Praia 2-1 and finished with 13 points and had four wins, 11 out of 16 goals were scored away. Its highest goals for the club were three, scored by Edmir and João Guido. The club will return again to the Second Division in the following season.

Santiago South Zone Cup
Vitória FC Praia came up at the round of 16 and faced Travadores for the Santiago South Zone Cup on 28 December, they made a goal draw and the club won the penalty shootouts 4–3 and advanced into the quarterfinals, originally for January 25, the match was rescheduled to February 21 and the match went to a goal draw, Vitória lost to Celtic in penalty kicks and is out of the competition.
