The 2014–15 season has been Inter Milan's 83rd consecutive season in the top flight of Italian football. Inter has taken part in Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa League.

Season

The summer of 2014 saw Inter left by many players of 2010 Treble: Javier Zanetti (captain), Esteban Cambiasso, Walter Samuel and Diego Milito.[3] The renewal signed by Mazzarri and the last few years without trophies drove the fans - probably for the first time since 2004 - to think about a "year zero" for the side: this revolution included the arrivals of new men, such as Pablo Osvaldo, Nemanja Vidić and Gary Medel.[4] Ranocchia was also appointed captain.[5] The season opened with the qualification for Europa League group stage, a 9–0 over Stjarnan.[6] It was followed by a goalless debut in the league against Torino[7], but two weeks later Inter beat Sassuolo 7–0[8], and in matchdays 5 and 6 - were defeated by Cagliari (4–1) and Fiorentina (3–0).[9]

In mid November, due to poor results, Mazzarri was sacked and replaced by Roberto Mancini who had coached the team between 2004 and 2008.[10][11] Despite the team has not built by him, Mancini aimed for a high goal: the third place, behind Juventus and Roma.[12] He tried to remedy the problem by playing young players, such as George Pușcaș and Gnoukouri.[13] The winter session of the transfer market brought in Inter also Marcelo Brozović, Lukas Podolski and Xherdan Shaqiri.[14] However, Inter did not manage to achieve their goals: eliminated in both cups, ended the league in eighth place failing - for the second time in 3 seasons - in qualify for UEFA competitions. However, Mauro Icardi was able to be the league's joint-top scorer, with 24 goals, equaled with Luca Toni.[15]

Kit information

The new home kit is black with a thin blue pinstripe and also boasts a new enlarged and enhanced club crest. The club crest – in the version with the star on the top – will be present exclusively on the jersey. The shirt has a tailored black collar with a thin blue trim, which has a button at the top, and a placket with a hidden button. Inside the back of the neck is a pennant tab featuring the Saint George’s cross to represent the city of Milan’s coat of arms. On the back of the neck is "Inter" in a specially designed font, which has been used by the Nerrazzurri’s most committed fans on flags and banners inside the San Siro since the 1970s. The new home shorts are black with a thin blue stripe along each side, and the new home socks are black with a wide tonal stripe of chevrons on the back. The new away kit has a ribbed crew neck collar and is white with a tonal light grey graphic on the front consisting of lines which create a Saint George’s cross from the city of Milan’s coat of arms. Inside the back of the neck is a pennant tab featuring the proud message "Milano E’ Solo Inter" (Milan is only Inter). It is written in a specially designed font. On the back of the neck is another Saint George's cross to once again proudly represent the city of Milan's coat of arms. The new away kit is completed by white shorts and socks.[18]

  1. ↑ Genoa failed to obtain a UEFA License from Italian Football Federation. Therefore, even if they earn the right to play in European competitions based on league position, they will not be able to participate.[19] Genoa appealed the decision, but the appeal was denied.[20][21]
  2. ↑ Since winners of the 2014–15 Coppa Italia, Juventus, qualified for European competition based on league position, the spot awarded to the cup winner (Europa League group stage) is passed to the fifth-placed team and the spot originally meant for the fifth-placed team (Europa League third qualifying round) is given to the highest placed team that has obtained an UEFA license and not already qualified for European competition.
