The 2012–13 Santiago Island League (South) season began on December 21 and finished in the Spring. Sporting won the regional competition and qualified into the 2013 Cape Verdean Football Championships. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS).[1]

Sporting Praia won their seventh title and was their second straight and competed into the National Championships with 48 points. Vitória was promoted after spending just a season in the second division while Ribeira Grande of Cidade Velha was relegated and spent the next four seasons in the Second Division. Ribeira Grande will spend the 2017-18 season in the Premier Division as they entered the promotion zone on March 26, 2017 with 30+ points. Since May 17 (officially), what was the second highest in the island and the nation, it is now the sixth highest overall and now shares AJAC's total of the North Zone.

Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 20 clubs participated in the competition, each in two divisions.
